Any foreign visitor wishing to enter Mongolia must have a valid passport and visa. Mongolian visas are issued by Mongolian Diplomatic Missions abroad or upon arrival at a special request.
The visa issuing rules have been eased since 1997. Practically a 30- days tourist visa can be obtained from any Mongolian Embassy abroad within 24 hours for approximately 40 $. Additional fees are changed for urgent visa. Alternatively, those who travel from countries with no Mongolian mission present can get visa either from the Mongolian embassy in Beijing or Moscow, or you can get visa at the international airport upon arrival. If you are intend to stay in Mongolia for more than 30 days you must register and extension with the office of Immigration, Naturalization and Foreign Citizens.
For visa extension visitors on official purposes shall bring:
- Request letter from organization for extending visa
- Certificates or licenses provided from foreign trade investment agencies
- Valid passport
- Copy of passport with first and entry visa pages.
- Fill the application form put together one resent photo sized 3*4

- USA - no visa for all type of passport holders, including A, H, J visas within 90 days.
- Hong Kong - 14 days for all type of passports. There is no visa fee for diplomatic and official passports. Ordinary passport holders pay visa fee if they travel for more than 14 days.
- Israel - 30 days for all type of passports
- Kazakhstan - 90 days for all type of passports
- Malaysia - 1 month for all type of passports
- Philippines - 21 days for all type of passports
- Singapore - 14 days for all type of passports

- Laos - no visa for diplomatic, official and ordinary passport holders within 90 days. Private travelers need visa
- DPRK - no visa for diplomatic, official and ordinary passport holders. Private travelers need visa
- Yugoslavia - no visa within 90 days for diplomatic, official passport holders. Ordinary passport holders with the consulate mark indicating the business purpose
- Cuba - no visa for diplomatic, official and ordinary passport holders within 3 0 days. Private travelers need visa
